April 2020: Our founder Laura Steuer was deeply concerned about the pandemic's effect on the elderly. Shelter-in-place requirements brought profound isolation and devastating health outcomes. With her background in phone outreach programs and compassionate communication, she gathered some like-minded volunteers...reached out to social workers and senior service agencies for collaboration...and Friendly Voices was born.
Today our research-backed mission is just as critical. Loneliness is a continuing crisis for our elderly population, and the consequences can be dire. Weekly phone conversation and friendship improves the physical and emotional well-being of older adults, and helps them know they're not forgotten.
June 2024: We're excited to announce the appointment of our next Executive Director Lew Epstein. With successful leadership experience and a passion for helping older adults, Lew will guide Friendly Voices into a new era of impact and growth.
